Sections of the DGOU

The sections of the DGOU have the objective of further developing the individual specialist areas within the field of orthopaedics and trauma surgery.


The Gesellschaft für Arthroskopie und Gelenkchirurgie (AGA) [Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery] is Europe's largest professional society for Arthroscopy.

This section deals with imaging techniques that are significant within the field of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Endoprothetik [German Society for Endoprosthetics] (AE) is concerned with all questions relevant to endoprosthetics and alternative therapies involving the preservation of the joint.

The Gesellschaft für Extremitätenverlängerung und -rekonstruktion [Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society] is concerned with the use and further development of ring-fixators.

The Deutsche Assoziation für Fuß und Sprunggelenk [German Association for the Foot and the Ankle Joint] (D.A.F.) is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the foot.

Basic research

The Sektion Grundlagenforschung [Basic Research Section] strives to work out clearly defined scientific objectives and content relating to research policy.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Handchirurgie [German Society for Hand Surgery] (DGH) is concerned with micro-surgical anatomical reconstruction after severe hand injuries.

The aim of the Deutschen Hüftgesellschaft [German Hip Society] (DHG) is to improve the quality of care in treating illnesses and injuries of the hip joint and pelvis across Germany.

The objectives of the Vereinigung für Kinderorthopädie [Association for Paediatric Orthopaedics] (VKO) are the scientific support of those working in the field, in addition to education, further training and networking between specialists.

The Deutsche Kniegesellschaft [German Knee Society] (DKG) aims to promote research as well as further training and education in the field of injuries and diseases of the knee.

The objective of the Section for Infections of the Bone and Soft Tissue is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the issue of musculoskeletal infections.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Orthopädische Rheumatologie [German Society for Orthopaedic Rheumatology] (DGORh) is concerned with the impact that rheumatic diseases have on the musculoskeletal system.


The aim of the Sektion Osteologie [Osteology Section] is to promote research, teaching, and medical care with regard to illnesses and adverse changes in bone metabolism in patients of all ages.

The Deutschsprachige Medizinische Gesellschaft für Paraplegiologie [German Medical Society for Paraplegiology] (DMGP) is concerned with the comprehensive rehabilitation of paraplegic patients.

The Sektion Prävention [Prevention Section] is concerned with the prevention of injuries and diseases within the field of orthopaedics and trauma surgery.

Rehabilitation and Physical therapy

The ‘Rehabilitation – Physikalische Therapie’ section represents all areas of rehabilitation for illnesses and injuries of the support and musculoskeletal systems.

The Interdisziplinäre Gesellschaft für orthopädische/unfallchirurgische und allgemeine Schmerztherapie [Interdisciplinary Society for Orthopaedic/Trauma Surgery and General Pain Therapy] (IGOST) promotes scientific findings in this area.

The Deutsche Vereinigung für Schulter- und Ellenbogenchirurgie [German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery] (DVSE) deals with illnesses and injuries of the shoulder and elbow.
